Gibraltar’s former main function was to act as a British military base. Over time, and with the changes in the way the military is configured and campaigns waged, it has changed to a low-tax jurisdiction, leading the world in online gaming and cryptocurrency trading. Unlike other British enclaves around the world, taxation is payable in Gibraltar. It is classified as a British Overseas Territory and shares the Pound with the UK as its currency making for easy transactional access between the Mother country and the Rock.
The average per capita income in Gibraltar is US$94k, with ultra low unemployment (fewer than 50 individuals are registered as out-of-work). HM Government of Gibraltar also runs a budget surplus (last fiscal year circa £72m) which means that the provision of public services is abundant.
Its modern airport has direct flights to Gibraltar from Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester. It enjoys Mediterranean weather with over 300 days of sunshine and an outdoor lifestyle to match.
